I decided to run for State’s Attorney after numerous discussions with current State’s Attorney for Calvert County Laura Martin and my family. As the Deputy State’s Attorney, and having worked in the office for close to nineteen years, I knew it was not a decision to enter into lightly. The State’s Attorney is the highest law enforcement official in the county. This position comes with tremendous responsibility and the need for measured judgment, legal knowledge and the desire to always strive for justice. Justice is not easy. It requires a prosecutor to look at all aspects of each case to include what is in the best interests of the community, the victim and the defendant. I currently prosecute the majority of Calvert County’s felony crimes of violence, assist in managing all four divisions of the State’s Attorney’s Office, work on the office budget, provide training to new prosecutors and law enforcement officers, and engage in open discussions with the community on a wide variety of topics that are of importance to the County.
As the State’s Attorney for Calvert County I will maintain a strong prosecutorial stance against violent crime and significant drug dealers, continue to expand our successful drug court program, establish our new Child Advocacy Center and endeavor to create a mental health court for the County.
